Kyoto Animation has always been famous for animating really awesome anime. Every now and then, the company creates the cutest girls in the anime world, with most of them becoming waifu material. And aside from the lovable characters, every series they made always had a lasting impact in the hearts of the ones who watched them. Violet Evergarden is their newest creation for the year 2018, and it is definitely a masterpiece that proves that KyoAni never fails to mesmerize us.
Letters of Emotion
Violet Evergarden focuses on the concept of writing letters. As she works as an “Auto Memory Doll”—a writer who puts the client’s feelings on paper—she begins to understands the power of emotions and the value of expressions in a person’s life. Each episode is a short story; each one revolves around a certain scenario like family struggles, a romance between a prince and a princess, and more.
Each scenario showcases an emotion or a feeling that one can learn and understand as we journey with Violet Evergarden. Although the series doesn’t have a flowing plot, each episode still has something that connects all of them together.
A Roller-Coaster of Life
One thing I really like about the series is the effort on beautiful scenery. I can say that the anime is more of a slice-of-life genre due to its somewhat slow-paced scenes. However, with the animators beautiful cinematography, added with really lovable characters, I couldn’t help but feel that relaxing atmosphere. Add that to the emotional story of each episode, and then I had this roller-coaster ride of feelings on every episode. The background music by Evan Call, with really enchanting openings and closings, sealed the deal for me, declaring it as one of the most beautiful anime series of the year.
There are lots of things that we can learn from the anime, Violet Evergarden. One big value that we can observe is the importance of conveying your true feelings. In our society today, emotions are pretty much sugar-coated, if not faked. People tend to hide or manipulate such feelings that we sometimes have a hard time understanding a person. With such perspectives in emotion, it is proper that we express our emotions with sincerity and care, so that people will learn understand us more.
Violet Evergarden is truly a masterpiece made again by the famous KyoAni. With such enchanting sceneries, beautiful characters, and heartwarming story, this is a series that everyone can enjoy. Rate: 9.5/10
